“If you ride like
lightning, you’re gonna crash like thunder”
Just think about this for a minute; the acting chops of Oscar nominee Ryan Gosling (Drive, Crazy Stupid Love) and Oscar Nominee Bradley Cooper (Silver Lining Playbook, The Hangover) is supported by the likes of Dane DeHaan (Chronicle) and Ray Liotta (Goodfellas). And that’s just to name a few. Surround those names with a sweeping drama about a gifted motorcyclist (Gosling) struggling to balance his life of crime and all the while trying to be a father to his new-born child, coming up against an aspiring police officer struggling to fight the corruption in his department and you have the makings of a riveting crime drama. If that trailer and description doesn't peak your interest then there is something wrong with you :p.
This movie promises to be
a powerful character study of two people dealing with some serious moral
issues. After his impressive debut feature Blue Valentine (2010), this is
director Derek Cianfrance’s second feature and a reunion with Gosling, whose
recent stellar performances have him going from strength to strength.

2. The Great Gatsby
(Release Date: UK 12th April and USA 29th March)
2. The Great Gatsby
The Great Gatsby is set in the affluent era of 1920s New York and follows the story of Nick Carraway (Toby Maguire; Spider Man) who becomes captivated by the lifestyle of Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio; Inception, The Departed, Titanic). With it Carraway becomes closer to his cousin, Daisy Buchanan (Carey Mulligan; Drive) and learns of the lost love between Gatsby and Daisy during the First World War. I’ll admit that I haven’t read the classic novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Neither have I seen any of the 3 previous adaptation of this story; which has me even more excited for the 2013 adaptation. I’ll be going in with no prior knowledge of the story which gives me the chance to judge the movie without bias, based on aspects such as the acting, visual style, etc.
And what an acting cast it
is! The previously mentioned DiCaprio, Maguire and Mulligan are supported by
the likes of Joel Edgerton (Warrior), Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty) and
living Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan (what a majestic name!). Another thing
to look forward to is the musical score by Jay-Z; say what you will about the
man himself but he is an extremely talented musician. With director Baz Luhrmann’s
visual prowess, The Great Gatsby promises to be a great romantic, period epic
that is bound to amaze the moviegoers.

Yes, I AM NOT BEYOND MINDLESS FUN! A few weeks ago
the full trailer for Fast and Furious 6 was released and my jaw dropped. Sure, it’s just more of the big and stupid stunts that we saw in Fast 5 but this time
they are even bigger, even crazier, even more mind boggling. Don’t fret! The
cars and girls are also involved.
When I watched Michelle Rodriguez’s character Letty resurrected in the post credits sequence of Fast Five, I couldn’t help but be eager for the next installment. You might be thinking "Letty? The one who was killed off in one of the previous films? How is it possible that she returns?" Well...who cares! The fast and furious franchise isn’t known for its logical plot lines. Rest assured though, her return will definitely add zest to the latest chapter of the Fast & Furious saga.
Fast and Furious 6 forces
Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) to enlist the help of Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his gang
to help bring another gang to justice. Quite possibly for the first time we
have a villain who is a proper badass. Owen Shaw, played by Luke Evans
(Immortals), is the leader of the rival gang and an evil mastermind. Writer
Chris Morgan returns along with director Justin Lin, who has single-handedly
pretty much brought this franchise back from the dead.

Godzilla vs. Transformers, BUT done by Guillermo del
Toro (Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy) – what’s not to like! Everything that can be said about this summer
blockbuster has been said in my buddy Will's post. This is one of Guillermo del Toro's rare ventures into big budget Hollywood studio movie. If the trailers are anything to go by, it makes you wonder how good we would have it if he agreed to such projects more often; he is notorious by rejecting such project. Suffice it to say I’ll watch anything del Toro directs, whether its action,
fantasy or science fiction.

So you’re probably wondering why I would include this in my top 5, and I wouldn’t blame you for it. BUT! Remember Shaun of the Dead (2004) and Hot Fuzz (2007)? Well, this is the last installment of that trilogy. I know I know, those films have nothing in common to be collated into a trilogy. But hey, think about this, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright. Those three names alone have me hooked and that’s why The World’s End makes it into my top 5 most anticipated movies of 2013.
