Check out the epic short after the jump!

For those who are fans of the Studio Ghibli classic Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind this is a rare treat. If you recall the film is set in a post-apocalyptic world cause by giant engineered bioweapons simply known as the Giant God Warriors 1000 years in the past during the period called the "Seven days of Fire". In Nausicaä we only got to see a few glimpses of the giant god warriors in flashbacks and can only image what they really look like, until now! This epic short film shows the start of the end when the giant god warrior proceeds to destroy all of Tokyo and eventually the rest of the world. Its great to see classic practical special effects apply in the true Tokusatsu fashion with the man in a rubber suit and accurate scale miniature city of Tokyo. If your thinking it looks a bit dated then yes your right because its meant to be, harking back the days of Kaiju monster movies and Power Rangers.

Hideaki Anno is the man who commissioned for the Tokusatsu Special Effects Museum in Tokyothis short. Hideaki Anno accolades include being the director/writer of the groundbreaking anime Neon Genesis Evangelion and also worked on Hayao Miyazaki's Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind as its key animator. His partner in crime Higuchi Shinji who directed this piece is considered to be one of best special effects technicians currently working in Japan. Hayao Miyazaki himself gave the short his Studio Ghibli seal of approval not something he gives out likely and Miyazaki is notorious for everything to be just right his films down to the brush strokes.

I'm taking nothing away from that tantalizing Giant God Warrior Appears in Tokyo short, but I still think the Giant God Warriors looked scarier in Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind because all have to go by is a dark shadows and glowing eyes for the harbingers of the apocalypse. The unknown is more terrifying than actually knowing in my opinion.
