Reel Hungry Film Reviews: Olympus Has Fallen

Ah crap I left them inside...
Morgan Freeman, secret service, explosions and terrorist fight it out inside the white house
With all this going on, how does it

Action films are a hard genre to please these days, especially if you decide to go with one that involves taking over the White House and holding the President hostage, but first lets deal with the synopsis:

Disgraced former Presidential guard Mike Banning finds himself trapped inside the White House in the wake of a terrorist attack; using his inside knowledge, Banning works with national security to rescue the President from his kidnappers.

All caught up? Oooh righty then. I'll start off by saying this is a serious action film and great to take  was great! If you like a serious action film and seeing Morgan Freeman as the President again (ok acting President) then definitely go see this.

Just as predicted in my spotlight on the trailer, "I like to think it's as if Die Hard and Air Force One had a one night fling and left the devil spawn inside the White House."
Olympus has Fallen lives up to expectations, not only does it deliver a takeover plan that could actually work if the secret service were suddenly overcome and the President held hostage, but also gives you a reason why they need to save his ass instead of burning that place to the ground.

Bitch I know you took the last twinkie
The script is tight, with good pacing and human moments to help keep you connected to the star characters, mix in some classic quotes and one-liners and you have the makings of a good action movie with a decent backing score to build up the suspense and frantic firefights but nothing memorable.

Watching this you do realize that the CGI used in some scenes could of done with some work, barely breaking the barrier between a game and having people superimposed into the scene but it doesn't really spoil the film and for scenes where the CGI is barely used (if used at all) it all pulls you in beautifully, giving you the illusion your in the white house filled with terrorist.

Antoine Fuqua has directed something here, it all fits together nicely and keeps you entertained with stellar performances from Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, Morgan Freeman and Rick Yune.

Its definitely not a new Die Hard or memorable in the long run but it gives you everything you've paid for and won't leave your memory too soon.

One to watch.
