Reel Hungry Far East Trailers 2013 2nd Half

It's been awhile since I last post one of these so here they are after the jump!

Special ID aka Special Identity [2013]
King of the martial arts movie hill Donnie Yen is bringing it back to the hard knuckled throw downs of his previous MMA infused works like S.P.L (aka: Killzone) and Flash Point.

Special ID boast some serious martial arts talent starring along side Donnie Yen with veterans like Collin Chou and Ken Lo. Andy On of "True Legend" fame, is also on board and adding some young blood to the mix. The movie looks great and it is packed with tons of action! From this trailer alone they look to have everything on tap guns, intense car chases, top draw fight scenes and Donnie Yen's personal brand of intensity.

Cold Eyes [2013]
A Korean remake of 2007 Hong Kong film Eye in the Sky, a high-tech police surveillance team of a special crime unit who are work together to take down a gang of bank robbers.

Having seen Eye in the Sky I can say this South Korean take on it looks really slick and really well filmed. Love to see how the director tackles the ending and possibly improve on it because the Hong Kong version while a great film was by no means flawless. Cold Eyes look worth to keep an eye on.

Tom Yum Goong 2 aka The Protector 2 [2013]
TYG2 (Tom Yum Goong 2) is the same old story apparently elephant gets stolen and Tony Jaa character must save it again. Why is it in 3D?

The teaser shows nothing we haven't seen from Tony Jaa before and I know story is the last thing anybody cares about in a Thai martial arts film but they aren't even trying here. Tony needs a better creative team because the bikes on the roof scene looks way familiar to the one in previous film. Instead they should be showing off more of Jaa's martial arts talents and build on it. Not to mention the CG effects in some of the stunt scenes look poor and only serves to diminish the action.

Kaze Tachinu aka The Wind Rises [2013]
If the name Hayao Miyazaki or Studio Ghibli mean anything to you then your going to be eagerly waiting for his next film.
A story about the life of Horikoshi Jiro, the man who create the infamous Zero fighter plane used in the attack on Pearl Harbor during World War II. The film will be set in one of Japan's most turbulent times dealing with  recession, infectious outbreaks and natural disasters. There looks to be a good deal of old school aviation porn for those who like that kind of stuff. Hayao Miyazaki has stated this will be his most personal film to date and that this will not be his last film. Now Miyazaki can breath a big sigh of relief.

Drug War [2013]
One more time just in case you still haven't heard of Johnnie To's new highly rated film, here it is again.

Drug War has received nothing but praise from critics and is only getting me more pumped it. Usually when I'm this worked up for a film I find myself rather disappointed when I finally go see it, but I just can't see that happening with a Johnnie To film.

47 Ronin [2013]
Keanu Reeves is the chosen one again in this fantasy style take on the classic samurai fable set in the 18th century.

With Keanu Reeves 47 Ronin will feature a large ensemble Japanese cast to add some level of authenticity to this conundrum of a movie. The 47 Ronin story has seen several film incarnations in Japan but a true 47 Ronin film for the west has never been made. Knowing Universal studios they probably didn't trust the source material enough to carry it to the box office and make its money back. So we got this revised fantasy version of 47 Ronin. Damn you Universal!
