Reel Hungry: Far East Film Trailers

This time last year there wasn't too many good films from the far east to get excited for or even piqued my interest. But 2013 however looks to be a completely different animal for Asian cinema and here are some of the trailers for the first wave of films from the far east.

Check out the hot new trailer for Johnnie To's Drug War and many others after the jump!

The Wrath Of Vajra
Synopsis: A Japanese death cult that kidnaps and trains children as assassins faces self-destruction when its deadliest graduate takes a stand against Japan's invasion of China.
The Wrath Of Vajra will be Xing Yu's debut in a leading role after staring in just supporting roles in films such as Kung Fu Hustle and Flashpoint. Xing Yu's Kung Fu is the real deal, being former Shaolin monk he add extra bit of authenticity and grit in his role as the world's deadliest assassin.

Drug War
Synopsis: Ming, a cold-hearted drug dealer, crashes his car into a convenient store after the exposure of his drug factory. In saving his own life, he locks his wife and brother-in-law inside the factory. Meanwhile, police officer Lei, extremely smart and careful, tries to track down drug criminals by offering an opportunity for Ming to reduce his future sentence.
The action crime auteur of Hong Kong cinema Johnnie To is back with a bang and his new hard-boiled crime thriller Drug War looks to be one hell of a ride. There seem to be way more action and straight up shoot outs to what the initial teaser trailer had us believe, which only makes me more pumped for a already great looking film. *Deep snort* Aaaahh Man! WOW WHAT A RUSH!! But seriously no! Don't do drugs.

Blind Detective
Synopsis: A cop is forced into early retirement due to retinal damage. But after witnessing a bank robbery along with a female inspector - who believes he has acute senses - they team up in hope to solve the case.
Andy Lau is a good actor but he isn't fooling anyone in believing him as a blind detective in this trailer. But Johnnie To is directing this, so it has a great chance of being very entertaining even with a premise as outrageous as this one for a contemporary crime thriller.

New World
Synopsis: The head of a crime syndicate dies, leaving his top two lieutenants. Seizing the opportunity, the police launch an operation called "New World," with the perfect weapon. The boss' right hand man, Ja-sung, has been a deep-cover operative for 8 years, closely watched by handler Police chief Kang. Ja-sung is torn between his duty and honor as a cop, and the fiercely loyal gang members who will follow him to hell and back.
Stocked with high caliber Korean talent New World looks like a very well made cat and mouse crime thriller, but we'll have to wait and see if this movie can turn out to be something more than just that.

Fist of Legend (2013)
Synopsis: Based on the original published in the portal site DAUM "Cartoon World", "The Legendary Fist" is about a group of friends who used to be 'legendary' back in their high school days, fighting in a real action fighting program for a prize of 20 million won every round.
Now not to be confused with the 1994 Jet Li martial arts classic and it is not a remake of any sorts. Fist of Legend (2013) looks to have some fantastically flashy fight scenes while still going for the emotional gut punch.

Switch
SynopsisSpecial agent Xiao Jinhan (Andy Lau) and insurance company employee Lin Yuyan (Zhang Jingchu) are on a mission to protect the world-famous drawing "Fu Chun Shan Ju Tu", which is the target of a Japanese gangster (Tong Dawei). Taiwan sweetheart Lin Chi-ling portrays a mysterious women in the film.
Switch is pretty much the Chinese equivalent of mixing the Mission Impossible films with a Bond-ess lead. Nothing original going for this in terms of plot or story but Switch looks great in the visuals department. "Scenic exotic locations" check, "intense chase scenes" check and "outrageous looking missions" double check.
